The Wanderer. Pareronia valeria (Cramer, 1776) Flashy beauties, these large butterflies show a conspicuously bright blue tint in the white coloration of upper wings in the male sex. Quite common in the jungles of India's Western Ghats, the Wanderer inhabits open tropical forests with moderate rainfall at low elevations. A quick and determined flyer with elegant gliding motions of wings, the butterfly loves to visit bright coloured flowers. Visiting "Bollywood", the Film City in Goregaon, it was surprising to enter a beautiful unspoiled landscape of green hills covered with dense tropical forests and many flowers and butterflies just a few miles north of Mumbai. That picture was taken at lunch brake between the Bollywood film studios. Goregaon Film City, Mumbai. 3 November, 2006. http://www.treknature.com/gallery/Asia/India/photo85870.htm |
